San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has been unanimously named the NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 season.

Wembanyama secured the award by surpassing the other finalists, Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets. The French player became the first person to win this award unanimously since Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Playing 71 games for the Spurs, Wembanyama averaged 29.7 minutes on the court, recording 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks.

MADE SAN ANTONIO SPURS HISTORY

The 20-year-old player became the second rookie to lead the league in blocks since the NBA began keeping official records in the 1973-74 season (the first being Manute Bol in 1995-96). He also became the first rookie since Shaquille O'Neal (1992-93) to record 40 points and 20 rebounds in a single game.

Wembanyama also became the third Spurs player to win the Rookie of the Year award, following David Robinson (1989-90) and Tim Duncan (1997-98).
