New format in the Turkish Cup: Groups are back, elimination rounds changed

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has announced that the Ziraat Turkish Cup will switch to a new format starting from the 2024-25 season.

In the announcement made by the TFF, it was stated that 24 teams will participate in the Turkish Cup and these teams will compete in 4 groups of 6 teams each. It was stated that the teams finishing in the top 2 in their groups will advance to the quarterfinals.

In the statement made by the TFF, it was said, "The Turkish Football Federation Board of Directors has decided to change the format of the Turkish Cup for the 2024-2025 season. According to the new format, a system consisting of elimination rounds, group matches, and final stages will be implemented. The elimination and final stages will be played on a single-elimination basis. Group matches will take place with the participation of 24 teams, and these teams will be placed in 4 groups of 6 teams each. The teams that finish in the top 2 in their groups will advance to the quarterfinals."

Furthermore, it was stated that according to the new format, the 24 teams that will participate in the groups will be divided into 3 pots based on their league and success rankings, and that each group will be formed by 2 teams from each pot. It was emphasized that the teams finishing in the top 2 as a result of the group matches will advance to the quarterfinals. According to this new format, it was stated that the 5 teams that will represent our country in UEFA competitions will participate directly in the group matches, while the other 19 teams will earn the right to participate in the groups after the elimination rounds.
