New season begins in the Champions League: Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe to take the stage

The league phase of the 2026/2027 UEFA Champions League season will begin with matches played on Tuesday, September 8. A total of 36 teams will compete in this season's most important club-level organization in European football.
The 36-team league format will be implemented for the third time in the competition. In the league phase, each team will face 8 different opponents, with 4 matches at home and 4 away. The first week's matches will be completed with a schedule spread across September 8, 9, and 10.
Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe will represent Turkey in the competition. Galatasaray will be the guest of Portuguese side Sporting CP in their first match on Wednesday, September 9, at 22:00 TSI. The Yellow-Reds will begin their European campaign in the league phase away from home.
Fenerbahçe, on the other hand, will play their first-week match in front of their own fans. The Yellow-Canaries will host Italian side Roma on Thursday, September 10, at 19:45 TSI.
On the opening day, the Borussia Dortmund-Villarreal, Porto-Manchester City, and Real Madrid-Inter matches stand out. The Liverpool-Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain-Slovan Bratislava, and Napoli-Arsenal matches are also on the schedule for September 9.
