The general assembly held at the Sivas Chamber of Commerce and Industry began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. The meeting was attended by Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek, Mayor Adem Uzun, provincial protocol members, and numerous delegates.
During the general assembly, the current president Burak Özçoban and his administration were acquitted, but no candidates emerged for the presidency. As Özçoban did not run for re-election, a management vacuum occurred at Sivasspor, and the club was left to the council board.
Club left to the council board
As a new administration could not be elected in accordance with the bylaws, the congress council board assumed the temporary management of the club. It is expected that Council Board President Ali Yavuz and members Kemal Çağlayan, Ali İzgi, and Cafer Kaplan will determine the date for a new general assembly in the coming days. It was learned that the council board will make a decision for an extraordinary general assembly within approximately 15 days.
President Özçoban: "We are saddened"
Speaking at the general assembly, Burak Özçoban asked for forgiveness from the people of Sivas, saying, "During my presidency, I would like to thank the city's elders, our former administrators, and our former presidents; they all supported me. In our administration, we dealt with transfer bans. Later, we dealt with betting issues. But somehow, we missed the play-offs by 4 points. In bringing the team to this point, the city's elders, our governor, our mayor, and especially our chairman Abdullah Güler provided great support, as much as I did. We continued with the support of President Mecnun Otyakmaz and Erdal Sarılar, and we never did this alone. We did it all together. We would have liked to continue, but current conditions do not allow us to carry this forward. We are saddened by this. We are Sivasspor fans. I ask for everyone's forgiveness. Whatever rights I may have had, I grant them freely. I hope all our fans will also grant me their forgiveness; we ask for it from them. I wish for our congress to bring good fortune to our club," he said.
Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek and Sivas Mayor Adem Uzun, who spoke afterward, stated that they would continue to support Sivasspor and wished the council board success.
