No winner in Atletico Madrid - Arsenal match

In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final, Spanish side Atletico Madrid faced English representatives Arsenal at home. Arsenal finished the first half with a 1-0 lead thanks to a penalty goal scored by Viktor Gyökeres in the 44th minute. The Spanish team started the second half quickly.

In a play in the 53rd minute, the ball hit Ben White's hand inside the penalty area, leading Atletico Madrid players to appeal for a penalty.

After a VAR review, referee Danny Makkelie awarded a penalty.

Julian Alvarez stepped up to the spot in the 56th minute and sent the ball into the net to level the score at 1-1. As both teams' attacks remained fruitless in the remaining minutes, the match ended 1-1. The return leg will be played on Tuesday, May 5.
