Oğuz Çetin makes statements on transfers, the championship, and the TFF

Fenerbahçe Football Director Oğuz Çetin made statements regarding the agenda of the yellow-navy club. Stating that they have completed the transfer process for Belgian star Romelu Lukaku, Çetin drew attention to the player's commitment to the club and the experience factor on the path to the championship. Çetin also reported that they had applied to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for the postponement of the Gençlerbirliği match, but that this request was rejected.

"Lukaku is a character transfer; he came by making sacrifices"

Emphasizing that they received great support from the president and the board of directors during the process of bringing Romelu Lukaku to the team, Oğuz Çetin said, "We had been working on the forward position for a long time. In this year where we are playing for the championship, it is very important to move forward with experienced and high-character players. This transfer is not just about footballing qualities; it is, more importantly, a character transfer. Romelu Lukaku's transfer to Fenerbahçe has been completed, I can announce this. He will be here this evening and will undergo medical checks."

"He waived 2 million Euros in receivables"

Touching on the self-sacrifice Lukaku showed during the transfer process, Çetin said, "He clearly demonstrated his belonging to the club during the process. He used his own interests by making sacrifices against Napoli; he waived 2 million Euros in receivables and even paid the 150 thousand Euros requested by the club out of his own pocket. He did not care about the money at all. We signed a 1+1 year contract where the option will be activated if we become champions. As for his transfer fee, there is a figure of around 5+1 million Euros." Stating that former executive Hasan Çetinkaya also made great contributions to the transfer, Çetin thanked him.

Reacting to the busy schedule before the Champions League play-off round and the TFF's decision not to grant a postponement, the yellow-navy team's football director said, "We will play 7 matches in August. We applied to the TFF for the postponement of our away match against Gençlerbirliği before the critical match we will play against Lyon in two days. We have not been able to participate in the Champions League for about 17 years, and this process is very critical both sportingly and financially.
