Okan Buruk reacts to referee decisions following Başakşehir victory

Galatasaray continued their unbeaten streak by defeating İstanbul Başakşehir 3-2 away in the 4th week of the Trendyol Süper Lig. Speaking after the match, the yellow-reds' manager Okan Buruk expressed his reaction, particularly regarding the referee's decisions.

Responding to a question about the referee's performance, Buruk argued that neither team was satisfied with the officiating during the match. The experienced manager stated, "How did you find the referee's performance? You have to ask all of Turkey this. You have to ask both teams. Can there be a referee performance where everyone is unhappy? The penalty, not a red card... Easy fouls. We need to talk about this referee performance as well."

Stating that they started the match well, Buruk said he was pleased with the play in the first half but that their level of play dropped following some changes in the second half. Buruk noted that they lost the rhythm of the first half after Osimhen and Lemina were substituted, though he added that the tactical moves still played an important role.

Touching on the contribution of Leao, who entered the game in the final stages, Buruk assessed, "I had said we wanted to use Leao. After he came on for the last 20 minutes, there were positive things. We finished by winning the match. Winning here is important."

Speaking about the goals they conceded, Buruk criticized the penalty awarded and emphasized that they need to improve defensively. The Galatasaray manager said, "There are goals we conceded. I didn't see it as a penalty; it was very soft. I'm not counting that, but apart from that, there were positions we gave away. We must improve our defensive performance."

Stating that they also had problems with set pieces, Buruk said they made a formation error in the period when they lost both Osimhen and Lemina. He expressed that despite the victory, they need to raise their defensive organization and the level of play they showed in the first 45 minutes.

Providing information on injury situations, Buruk explained that Lemina had experienced mild groin pain in training and that Osimhen had felt an issue on match day. Stating that both players will undergo MRIs, Buruk said, "I hope there is nothing serious. I hope we can get them ready for the Champions League match."
