In the final of European football's third-tier club tournament, Italian side Fiorentina faced off against Greek representatives Olympiacos.
The match, hosted at the AEK Arena in Athens, Greece, ended in a 0-0 draw in regular time, sending the game into extra time.
The deadlock remained unbroken during the first half of extra time.
Olympiacos were the side to break the deadlock in the match. In the 116th minute, Ayoub El Kaabi headed home a cross from Santiago Hezze to put his team 1-0 ahead.
El Kaabi's goal was reviewed by VAR for approximately 3 minutes. Following the review, referee Artur Dias signaled that the goal stood.
Olympiacos defended their goal well for the remainder of extra time, denying Fiorentina and becoming the champions of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
FIORENTINA LOSE FOR THE 2ND CONSECUTIVE TIME
Italian side Fiorentina could not overcome their misfortune in the final. The Viola had also managed to reach the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2022-2023 season.
Fiorentina were defeated 2-1 by West Ham United in last season's final and lost the trophy at the final hurdle.
The Italian representatives suffered the heartbreak of losing a final once again this season, falling 1-0 to Olympiacos.
