İstanbulspor manager Osman Zeki Korkmaz made evaluations after his team was defeated 2-1 at home by Fatih Karagümrük in the 33rd week of the Süper Lig, becoming the first team to be relegated from the league.
Speaking at the press conference held after the match played at Esenyurt Necmi Kadıoğlu Stadium, Osman Zeki Korkmaz said that they had gone into the Fatih Karagümrük match aiming for a win, just as they had in their victory away at Hatayspor.
Speaking about the team's relegation being confirmed, Korkmaz continued as follows:
"We had logically given the message that we were relegated 8-10 weeks ago. We had also said that the football we played was not related to that. I can say that we played dominantly against Galatasaray, against Hatayspor, and in today's match. The closest Karagümrük got to our goalkeeper Alp Arda was during the penalty situations at the end of the halves. Apart from that, we had 3 clear chances that we couldn't convert into an empty net. Our players will rest for 2 days, and after that, I want them to analyze the first goal we conceded themselves."
Adding that President Ecmel Sarıalioğlu came to the locker room after the match, Korkmaz noted the following:
"He told us to refresh our minds after today and play enjoyable football in the last 5 weeks. There was no agenda regarding our relegation or staying up. Our president said, 'You give the right messages; over time, the truths and our justification will emerge.' I think we have demonstrated the vision and mission of İstanbulspor. We will come back stronger by doing better. But there is another pathetic dimension. There is nothing we can do against a mentality that even waits for the opponent to award a throw-in. While the same forceful actions are easily called for one side, they are not called for the other. We were the side playing the match today; our opponent chased moments. And those moments were gifted to them."
Speaking about his player Simon Deli wanting to leave the pitch during the match, Korkmaz said, "Simon Deli said, 'If a penalty is given for this, there is no point in us playing this match.' I told him to wait for 2 minutes. Alp Arda was going to concede a goal from a penalty one way or another anyway. They missed the first penalty. If Fatih Karagümrük had missed the penalty in the last minute, I am as sure as my name that another penalty would have been given," he stated.
