Palmeiras crowned champions in Brazilian League

Palmeiras have reached the championship in the Brazilian top-flight football league (Serie A).

Drawing 1-1 away against Cruzeiro in the final match of the 38-week league marathon, Palmeiras finished the season at the top with 70 points, securing their second consecutive title and the 12th in their history.

In Serie A, Gremio finished second with 68 points, while Atletico Mineiro took third place with 66 points.

Santos, the club where Brazilian legend Pele once played, finished the league in 17th place with 43 points and was relegated for the first time in its 111-year history.

Experiencing its golden age in the 1960s, Santos won the Brazilian championship 8 times and took the Libertadores Cup to its trophy cabinet in 1962, 1963, and 2011.

In addition to Pele, Santos introduced numerous stars to world football, such as former Milan forward Robinho, the Brazilian national team's all-time top scorer Neymar (79), and Real Madrid forward Rodrygo.
