President Erdoğan congratulates the National Football Team
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called the National Football Team to congratulate them after they defeated Romania 1-0 in Istanbul in the 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers play-off semi-final, advancing to the final.

Following the match, Erdoğan spoke with Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, Turkish Football Federation President İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu, National Team Head Coach Vincenzo Montella, and the national players.
First congratulating TFF President İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu on the success of the crescent-star team, Erdoğan commended Head Coach Vincenzo Montella and the national players for their superior performance throughout the 90 minutes and their significant victory. He conveyed his best wishes for the play-off final match they will play away against Kosovo on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in their bid to qualify for the World Cup. The crescent-star team thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his support.
Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak and TFF President İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu, who went down to the locker room, also congratulated Vincenzo Montella and the players and wished them success for the play-off final.
