Prison sentence requested for Selahattin Baki!

Following the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby in the 37th week of the Super Lig last season, a lawsuit was filed regarding allegations that Selahattin Baki, who was a member of the Fenerbahçe Board of Directors at the time, insulted Galatasaray Sports Club Board Member Eray Yazgan.

The indictment prepared by the Conciliation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation was launched upon a complaint petition submitted to the prosecutor's office by Eray Yazgan's lawyer, Metin Sinan Arslan, following the incidents that occurred after the match on May 19. The indictment noted that it was determined from a video recording submitted to the file by Yazgan's lawyer that Baki had insulted Yazgan.

According to the prosecutor's statement included in the indictment, the defendant Baki claimed that he did not know the complainant Yazgan and that he did not insult or fight with anyone.

WHAT HAPPENED ON THE PITCH?

Stating that although he had a place in the stadium, he watched the match from the television in the room allocated to the Fenerbahçe delegation with Ahmet Ketenci, Baki said that they wanted to greet the Fenerbahçe fans after the match, but they were only able to greet the fans and celebrate the victory for about 10-15 seconds, and that they could not stay on the pitch for long due to warnings from official and unofficial personnel.

Baki stated that they later informed Ali Koç, who came to the locker room, that the players could not celebrate the victory on the pitch, and that they decided to go out onto the pitch to celebrate the victory with the Fenerbahçe fans, thinking that the Galatasaray fans had left the stadium.

Emphasizing that Ali Koç had warned him not to get involved in any incidents because he had been to the prosecutor's office before, Baki explained that as they were leaving the locker room and heading to the pitch, some people he thought were Galatasaray club employees told them it would not be appropriate to enter the pitch, and that some officials tried to block them as they were entering the pitch.

BAHÇETEPE'S STATEMENT TAKEN

The indictment stated that the statement of Galatasaray Sports Club Board Member Bora İsmail Bahçetepe was also taken as a "person with knowledge."

According to this statement, Bahçetepe said that they were at the protocol exit point to accompany the exit of Eray Yazgan and the Fenerbahçe executives.

Stating that the stadium was empty when Ali Koç and his entourage headed to the pitch with private security, Bahçetepe said that Yazgan warned them by saying, "What you are doing is a crime, please go out!" but that Baki insulted Yazgan heavily.

NO CONCILIATION AT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The indictment requests that Selahattin Baki be sentenced to between 3 months and 15 days to 2 years and 4 months in prison for the crime of "insult."

The indictment also stated that while the crime of "insult" is subject to conciliation, no agreement could be reached between the defendant and the complainant as a result of the negotiations between the parties.

Baki's trial will begin in the coming days at the Istanbul 53rd Criminal Court of First Instance.
