In the first half, Real Madrid's goals were scored by Vinicius Junior (min. 7, min. 10, and min. 39-penalty), while Barcelona's only goal came from Robert Lewandowski (min. 33).
Although Barcelona started the second half more aggressively, the goal by Rodrygo Goes in the 64th minute, following an assist from Vinicius, dashed their hopes.
BARCELONA REDUCED TO 10 MEN
Ronald Araujo, who received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 71st minute after a foul on Vinicius, left Barcelona with 10 men. The Brazilian forward Vinicius, who scored a hat-trick, provided the assist for the 4th goal, and caused the opponent to be reduced to 10 men, was replaced by Camavinga in the 81st minute.
Meanwhile, national footballer Arda Güler, who returned from injury at Real Madrid, remained on the bench for the final match.
ARDA GÜLER WINS HIS FIRST TROPHY WITH REAL MADRID
While Barcelona remains the club that has won the Spanish Super Cup the most times with 14 titles, Real Madrid closed the gap by lifting the trophy for the 13th time.
The format of the Spanish Super Cup was changed in 2020 to a "final four" (league champion, league runner-up, and Copa del Rey finalists) and was moved to Saudi Arabia as part of an agreement.
REAL MADRID FILLS ITS COFFERS
Under the current agreement, Barcelona and Real Madrid each received 2.8 million euros for participating in the Super Cup tournament, while Atletico Madrid received 1.7 million euros and Osasuna received 750 thousand euros.
The two teams that reached the final received an additional 1 million euros each, and Real Madrid took home an extra 2 million euros by winning the cup.
On the other hand, the managers of both teams, Carlo Ancelotti of Real Madrid and Xavi Hernandez of Barcelona, faced each other for the 9th time in their careers.
Until now, there was a tie with 4 wins each between the two managers, but following the victory in this match, the record shifted to 5-4 in favor of Ancelotti.
