Fenerbahçe's new signing Romelu Lukaku officially donned the yellow-and-navy jersey at a signing ceremony held at the Chobani Stadium 1907 Tribune in Kadıköy. In addition to Lukaku, the ceremony was attended by Football Branch Manager Cihan Kamer, football director Oğuz Çetin, and board members.
Giving a short speech at the ceremony, Lukaku began his words by saying "Good morning" in Turkish. He then continued, "First of all, I would like to start by thanking our president Aziz Yıldırım, Cihan Kamer, Oğuz Çetin, and İsmail Kartal. I felt trust during this process. I want to state that I felt this trust from the management and everyone. I am very happy to be here. Being here is a great honor for me. I have wanted to be here for a long time; I have been waiting for 1 month. It is a great pleasure to live in this wonderful country and to be at Fenerbahçe. Turkey is my second home. There is also a slightly symbolic side to the matter. I also came to Turkey after the age of 30, just like my father. My father also played football in Turkey after the age of 30. I was 3 years old then. What is important for us here is the interests of Fenerbahçe, for it to win, and to leave with victories at the end of the day. Fenerbahçe winning is the most important thing. We will work hard in every training session. We want to make our fans happy. I can clearly see the desire and ambition the club possesses. I was with the team yesterday. I met my teammates. We want to win all the trophies here. We also want to be very successful in Europe. It is a new competitive environment for me. I will try to perform at my best. Our coach and technical staff are wonderful. I am working with a great team. I hope that I want to speak to you in Turkish soon as well. I am looking forward to meeting our fans at the stadium as soon as possible," he said.
Sharing his experiences regarding Fenerbahçe, the experienced footballer also mentioned his conversation with Raul Meireles. "We talked with Raul Meireles; we spoke twice last week for a total of 2.5 hours. He talked about the greatness of Fenerbahçe. I haven't spoken to Nicolas Anelka, but I will call him. I changed my number, but I will call him. Raul said very nice things. He said nice things about the fans, the management, and the media. Since we are in the same WhatsApp group, we have conversations," he said.
Expressing his great desire to return to the pitch, Lukaku underlined that he feels ready regarding his current status, saying, "I think 4-6 weeks is too long. I want to say that I am 100 percent fit. I also trained with the team yesterday. I have a 5-6 day program. I want to play next week. I want to earn my spot and help the team. 4-6 weeks is a bit long. I am not injured, I am fit."
