Portuguese Primeira Liga side Sporting CP's manager Ruben Amorim made statements ahead of their league match against Gil Vicente tomorrow.
Amorim stated that reports claiming he has reached an agreement with English Premier League club Liverpool do not reflect the truth.
Stating that his only goal is to win championships with Sporting, Amorim said, "There have been no interviews. The only thing I want is to win a championship with Sporting. Nothing will change that. I am the manager of Sporting, I have not interviewed with any team, and I have not reached an agreement. I will not talk about this. I keep facing the same questions. Our goal is to win championships here. I cannot guarantee that we will win the championship. I also cannot guarantee that I will stay here."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Liverpool, which will part ways with Jürgen Klopp at the end of the season, continues its search for a new manager.
Following Xabi Alonso's announcement that he would remain at Bayer Leverkusen, it was claimed that Liverpool, having turned to other candidates, had reached an agreement with Ruben Amorim.
A report on Sky Sports had stated that a verbal agreement had been reached.
IN THE FINAL 2 YEARS OF HIS CONTRACT
Ruben Amorim, who began his managerial career at Casa Pia, has a contract with Sporting that expires in 2026.
Ruben Amorim, who has been at the helm of the Portuguese team since March 2020, has a 20 million euro release clause in his contract for clubs outside of Portugal.
