Search for a new system to replace VAR in football

FIFA has begun working on a new system by listening to needs. With the FVS method, called the Football Video Support system, team managers are also involved in final decisions, and the system is being simplified.

Unlike VAR, FVS will use 4 or 5 cameras to analyze positions and will eliminate the need for a VAR referee.

Under the system, managers will be granted the right to request a review twice per match.

The important point here is that if a manager makes a request, the match referee is obligated to review the position. In other words, the referee's discretion on whether or not to go to the VAR monitor will be removed. The difference from the old system is that these rights are limited and the game will not be interrupted frequently.

FIFA wants to test FVS in international tournaments and expand its use worldwide in 2025. After FIFA approves the system, it will be presented to the International Football Association Board.
