In Turkish football, where referee decisions are constantly debated and incidents on the pitch never seem to end, the latest leak of a referee meeting has become the top item on the sports agenda.

The leak of the meeting held by Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Central Referee Board (MHK) instructor Hugh Dallas with referees following the 27th week of the Süper Lig continues to occupy the spotlight.

Following the leak of the meeting, which included discussions on the penalty decision given in favor of the Yellow-Reds during the Galatasaray - Antalyaspor match, the TFF released the entire recording of the meeting.

The federation announced that it has launched an investigation into the matter, stating that unauthorized publication of this closed-door, internal meeting is a legal offense.

Şenes Erzik, who served for many years at UEFA and FIFA and is the Honorary President of the TFF, evaluated the current events. Responding to questions from Cemal Ersen of Milliyet, Erzik said:

It means someone had planned this in advance, but the authorized institutions could not foresee it and could not take precautions. Look at the situation, is there anyone who isn't talking about referees? Refereeing is a completely different job. Managing them requires very different skills. We haven't reached a point or anything. There were such names in refereeing in the past. There were bad ones among them too, I used to call them vagabonds. They disappeared over time. But looking at today, unfortunately, that quality of the past is gone. The authority we should ask 'why' to should be the current administrators.

"HUGH DALLAS MIGHT HAVE LEAKED IT"

The leaking of VAR records is an interesting issue. People are talking about who did it. I think you should ask the person in charge, Hugh Dallas. He might have leaked it. He was a referee during my time at UEFA. I know him more or less. I had seen some of his mistakes. His face turns red when he gets nervous. I am listening to the released VAR conversations; they have gone outside the procedure. In the previous period, we had Jaap Uilenberg in our country. He was a decent man; I don't know why they sent him away. They say 'look at the referee,' and I say 'look at their teachers.' One should look not only at Hugh Dallas but also at the Federation and the MHK. A horse neighs according to its owner.

After the foreign observer, the issue of bringing in foreign referees is on the agenda. In my opinion, they cannot do it. If they do this, it means you are finished. I would say 'goodbye' to all of them. What does that mean, what does a foreign referee mean? Are only our referees to blame? They will leave anyway. I mean the Football Federation. What has been experienced has become public knowledge. The whole world saw it. It has come out and said 'enough is enough.' Neither the TFF president nor the MHK president knows or understands."

FENERBAHÇE'S AGENDA OF WITHDRAWING FROM THE LEAGUE

Erzik, who also attended the iftar dinner hosted by Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç the other evening, shared his impressions as follows:

"My opinion is that everyone will come to the extraordinary general assembly on April 2, and the necessary quorum will be reached. There is no such thing as withdrawing from the league. Everyone who spoke there supported the president but did not want a decision to withdraw to be made. And that is the right thing to do anyway."
