Sergen Yalçın: I don't think we have a target in the league

In the 27th week of the Trendyol Super League, Beşiktaş defeated Kasımpaşa 2-1 at home. Following the match, Beşiktaş Manager Sergen Yalçın made statements at the press conference held.

"It is not easy to recover after a derby defeat"

Starting his words by mentioning the importance of winning before the international break, Yalçın said, "It is not easy to recover after a derby defeat. Our players performed well in both matches. We found an early goal today as well. Although the score might seem tight, when we look at the game, the opponent had almost no chances. We caught 3-4 clear chances in the second half. That was down to the goalkeeper's luck. The 2-1 score is pleasing for us. We will try to continue on our path from where we left off."

"We have a Turkish Cup target"

The 53-year-old manager stated that it is difficult to set a target in the league after the match lost in the Galatasaray derby, saying, "If we had won the derby, our probability of entering the top 3 right now would have been 90 percent. Maybe we could have finished in the top two. But after that match, we are only trying to protect our own position. We are waiting for others to slip up for the top spots. I don't think we have many targets in the league. Our goal is to win the remaining 7 matches. We have a Turkish Cup target. That is an easy ticket for us to qualify for Europe. That is much more important for us."

"There was a referee performance in today's match that we were not satisfied with at all"

Pointing out that he is not satisfied with the referee performances both throughout the season and today, Sergen Yalçın said, "I don't want to talk about the referees. But unfortunately, things are not very bright. Unfortunately, there was a performance in today's match that we were not satisfied with at all. Maybe other teams are not satisfied either. The events that happened in the derby, the failure to apply the rules... Apply them to me too, apply them to everyone. But we have been experiencing serious problems regarding referees since the beginning of the season. As the Beşiktaş community, we are very troubled about this issue. I hope it won't be like this next year. We have plans, we don't want to be crushed under them. We want to have full confidence in our referee friends, we want them to officiate matches honestly."

The experienced manager, who said, "We are trying to settle the game while trying to solve serious problems," continued as follows:

"We are trying to do something and I think we are on the right track. The financial situation that Turkish football is in is not healthy. It is not easy for clubs to meet these budgets. What we are trying to do is to use the economy correctly, not to put the club under large figures. Since the fans are happy with the players, it means we have made the right decisions. We do not want to put the club in a difficult situation economically. We are trying to bring the right player and the right figure together in the most accurate way. 50 percent is always a success in transfers. Our team is well above this percentage in using the economy correctly, not putting the club under large figures."
