The silence is broken! Anadolu Efes issues statement on 'moment of silence'...

Before the start of the second-week matches of the THY EuroLeague, the moment of silence observed for civilians who lost their lives in the Israel-Palestine war led to the emergence of different views on social media.

The EuroLeague management instructed that a moment of silence be held for the civilians who lost their lives before all matches and requested that a written text be read in the arenas. This written text was read before every match.

In accordance with the text sent by the EuroLeague management, before the match Anadolu Efes played against Real Madrid, an announcement was made in Turkish: "Değerli basketbolseverler, son günlerde yaşanan terör saldırılarında ve devam eden silahlı çatışmalarda hayatını kaybedenlerin anısına sizleri saygı duruşuna davet ediyoruz." and its English equivalent: "A moment of silence in memory of the victims of the the ongoing armed conflict."

EuroLeague tarafından geçtiğimiz hafta oynanan maçlarda Orta Doğu’da yaşanan üzücü olaylar nedeniyle saygı duruşu yapılması yönünde bilgilendirme yapılmıştır.

Anadolu Efes Sports Club issued a statement due to comments on social media that were prone to misunderstanding.

The statement from Anadolu Efes included the phrase, "A moment of silence was held in memory of those who lost their lives in the region."

"Information was provided by the EuroLeague to hold a moment of silence due to the sad events in the Middle East during the matches played last week.

In this context, moments of silence were held before all EuroLeague and EuroCup matches.

Before the match our club played against Real Madrid on Thursday, October 12, a moment of silence was also held in memory of those who lost their lives in the region.

The removal of the EuroLeague social media post, which caused misleading and inaccurate comments, has been ensured.

We present this to the public's information."

MOMENT OF SILENCE ALSO HELD AT FENERBAHÇE MATCH

Similarly, a moment of silence was held before the match Fenerbahçe Beko played away against Valencia. Likewise, before the Fenerbahçe match, the announcement "A moment of silence in memory of the victims of the the ongoing armed conflict." was made.

Unlike the foreign commentators who broadcast the matches in English, Turkish commentators made the announcement "A moment of silence for the civilians who lost their lives in Palestine and Israel" before the moment of silence in every match.
