The Turkish Football Federation, despite all public backlash, decided to hold the Super Cup final between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, which was to be played in the 100th year of the Republic, in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Hours before the match, which was scheduled to be played on December 29, Saudi authorities did not allow the teams to take the field with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk banners and t-shirts, leading Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray to decide not to play the match.

Following the crisis, the Super Cup final was postponed to a later date, and the sports community called on Turkish Football Federation President Mehmet Büyükekşi to resign.

Evaluating the crisis in the Super Cup, Sözcü sports columnist Ercan Taner said that the TFF could head to an extraordinary congress at the end of January.

Speaking on Sözcü TV, Taner used the following expressions;

“Mr. Büyükekşi is giving messages to his inner circle that he will continue on. But I don't think so. I expect an extraordinary congress at the end of January. But I don't know if he is relying on something from somewhere, or if he is just trying to boost the morale of his inner circle. But let me state again, I expect an extraordinary congress within the month of January.”
