English Premier League side Sunderland has made a new addition to its attacking line. The club has officially announced the transfer of 21-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana, who was playing for Lyon.
Sunderland announced that a long-term contract has been signed with the young footballer. Fofana, who plays on the left wing, can also be deployed in the center of the attack if needed.
The club's director of football, Florent Ghisolfi, stated that Fofana possesses the qualities to succeed in the Premier League and expressed their goal of providing an environment where the player can continue his development.
A product of the Gent youth academy, Fofana transferred to Lyon in January 2024. The young player appeared in 82 matches for the French side, recording 18 goals and 6 assists during those appearances.
Having played for various age categories of Belgium, Fofana received his first call-up to the senior national team in October 2024. The young footballer made his debut for the Belgium senior national team in a UEFA Nations League match against Italy.
Having left Lyon, Malick Fofana will continue his career in the Premier League wearing a Sunderland jersey.
