In the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup, Switzerland and Colombia faced off at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

The first half of the match, officiated by Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton, ended goalless.

The second half of the match was also played at a low tempo, and there were no goals in 90 minutes.

Both teams created clear chances in the first period of extra time. With the deadlock still unbroken in the second period of extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout.

Switzerland, coached by Murat Yakın, prevailed 4-3 on penalties to book their place in the quarter-finals. Colombia, meanwhile, bowed out of the tournament.

Switzerland will face Argentina in the quarter-finals.
