The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has announced that U21 National Team Head Coach Gökhan Gönül has stepped down from his position. Gönül stated that he made this decision in line with his new career goals.
In a statement released by the TFF, Gökhan Gönül was thanked for his contributions to the national team.
The statement included the following: "We Thank Gökhan Gönül. Planning to turn a new page in his career, Gökhan Gönül has stepped down from his position as U21 National Team Head Coach. As the Turkish Football Federation, we thank Gökhan Gönül, who wrote his name among the unforgettable by wearing our A National Team jersey 66 times and who began serving in our U21 National Team following his professional football career, for his contributions to date and wish him success in his new career."
Gökhan Gönül stated that he began his tenure at the U21 National Team as an assistant coach in January 2024 and continued as head coach starting in September 2024. Gönül expressed that working for the national team was a great honor for him and that the experience he gained during this process would guide him in his new career.
Gönül said, "The national jersey is sacred. I sweated for the A National Team for years. When my playing career ended, I was given the opportunity to help my young friends under the umbrella of the Turkish Football Federation. I am very grateful for this. Working under the Crescent-Star jersey was a great honor for me. I feel lucky in this regard. The experience I have gained will shed light on my new career."
