MONTELLA: I AM PROUD OF MY PLAYERS

Our National Team, which faced Iceland away in the UEFA Nations League B Group 4 match, defeated its opponent 4-2. After the victory, National Team Head Coach Montella made statements.

Making statements at the press conference held after the match played at Laugardalsvöllur Stadium, Montella said, "I can say that I am proud after this performance, I am incredibly proud of my players who showed a tremendous performance. Despite the bad pitch and a bad start, we put the performance we wanted into the match. The Iceland National Team only saw 10 shots on their goal in the last Montenegro match, and 8 shots against Wales. We took 24 shots in a single match. It is a detail that shows how much we went to the goal. It was a very emotional match, a match where struggle and sacrifices were at a high level. It was a very enjoyable victory. We have an incredible group of football players, we are very happy, we continue to experience these firsts with them. I hope we will celebrate the first place together in a month. Our goal is to go to Group A. I hope we succeed in leaving the group as the leader. We have a very important match against Wales. We can now see from time to time how much our team's geometries have settled. We can score four goals with four different players. It is very promising, I am proud of all of them."

When asked, "We scored four goals with four different players. Can we say that the striker debates are completely off the table?", Montella replied, "I am sad because I had started to enjoy these questions."

The Italian coach answered the question, "İrfan said, 'My goal was important, Kerem's goal was beautiful.' Do you agree with İrfan?", by saying, "If I have to answer truthfully, all goals are beautiful to me. As a former striker, Arda's goal from Kerem's pressure was very gratifying for me. Even though offensive players have high technical capacities, the fact that they fight so well and it results in a goal always makes a difference. It also makes a difference individually. We see those names having scored more goals on the scoreboard. İrfan's goal was technically beyond tremendous, Kerem's goal was also very beautiful, but it is not easy to take the second penalty. It is also gratifying that Hakan scored the goal in the second penalty with his coolness. Only a football player like him can take such a penalty."

Vincenzo Montella, who used the words, "Especially scoring 4 goals away in Iceland on this pitch, and there was a national team that had only scored 3 goals in the previous 7 matches, being able to score one more goal and scoring 4 goals in one match was also gratifying for me," evaluated, "I told my players at the end of the first half that we were in the match. We made our presence felt to the opponent, the distances were a bit long while taking preventive defense positions, we conceded counterattacks. On a slippery surface, you start to struggle when you exceed such distances sometimes. We managed to make 400 passes, twice as many as our opponent, 90 percent of our passes were successful."

Upon an Icelandic journalist's question, "Don't you think the ball Merih cleared off the line was a penalty?", Montella explained, "If the ball had touched Merih's arm, it would have stayed there, so my heart was at ease, I knew clearly that it was not a penalty. I will have a little fun today while presenting the data to you, we have 12 shots going to the goal from inside the penalty area in this match in the Nations League, we are the team that shoots the most inside the penalty area in all groups in the Nations League."

"YOU CANNOT FIND IT VERY EASILY"

Vincenzo Montella answered the question, "It seems like he reached another level after the Kerem transfer. Is he becoming a world-class player after his transfer?" as follows:

"It will not be an easy answer, let no one take offense at this. Kerem was a football player I followed a lot, I have been in Turkey for 3 years. You cannot find a football player who possesses such features very easily. It is not easy to find a player who goes deep like this, has very high technical capacity, has a shot, a pass, everything. Maybe his mind was not at ease in recent times, I felt that his mind was at ease after his transfer and I played him directly in the Montenegro match. I don't want to say it's related to his old team, his mind is really in a different position and we all see him more comfortable."
