Having lost 2-0 to Australia in its first match of the tournament, Turkey was defeated 1-0 by Paraguay in its second group encounter. Following consecutive losses, the crescent-and-star team lost its chance to advance from the group stage and bid farewell to the World Cup.

SHARP DROP IN FIFA RANKINGS

Turkey's position in the updated FIFA world rankings changed following the results in the World Cup. In the list announced after the Paraguay match, the national team dropped 10 places to rank 32nd with 1550.13 points.

NO CHANGE AT THE TOP

Argentina remained at the top of the FIFA world rankings with 1889.06 points. Argentina was followed by France with 1887.11 points and Spain with 1856.03 points.
