Torreira said, "I learned at the police station that he was mentally unstable and had been writing bad things about my mother for a year and planning to kill me."

Lucas Torreira spoke for the first time about the assault he experienced during a program he attended in his home country. The 30-year-old player used the following expressions regarding the events:

"The last time in Turkey, after playing padel with my family at a hotel, I took a shower in the evening and went out. A couple wanted to take a photo, so we did. Just as I was going down the stairs, someone came up to me; I thought he wanted a photo, but he suddenly punched me.

I reacted out of reflex and the man fell. My driver and friends intervened.

It turned out that this person was an obsessive stalker of a very close female friend of mine. When he saw our padel photo, he raided the hotel.

I learned at the police station that he was mentally unstable and had been writing bad things about my mother for a year and planning to kill me. More than the punch, it hurt me that my mate set was broken.

While going to the hospital for a report, a friend of mine who had just been released from prison called and said, 'I'm free,' and a doctor examined me in the parking lot using a phone flashlight. Because of this incident, I changed my tickets and returned early, but this situation does not change the fact that the Turkish people are very kind; that was an exceptional case."
