Controversial statement from TRT Spor regarding celebration footage

The Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team defeated the USA 3-2 in their 8th match of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

Footage of a female fan celebrating during the match, which was broadcast on TRT Spor, became a trending topic on social media.

A statement regarding the matter was published on TRT Spor's social media account.

"A DISTURBING SITUATION"

In the statement, which referred to the celebration footage in question as an "unwanted image" and a "disturbing situation," it was stated that "TRT Spor and all broadcasting channels airing the match reflected the images transmitted instantly by the US broadcaster onto the screen without any possibility of intervention."

"DISSATISFACTION CONVEYED TO THE OTHER PARTY"

The full text of the statement made by TRT Spor is as follows:

"Last night, an unwanted image appeared on the screen during the live broadcast of the match played against the host USA in the 8th game of our Women's National Volleyball Team in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

This disturbing situation has been associated with our institution in different media outlets and under a false perception.

We would like the public to know that the filming and direction of the match were carried out by the host US broadcaster. TRT Spor and all broadcasting channels airing the match reflected the images transmitted instantly by the US broadcaster onto the screen without any possibility of intervention. Therefore, this image, which is completely contrary to our broadcasting policy, originated from the US broadcaster, and our dissatisfaction with this situation has been conveyed to the other party.

TRT, with the title and responsibility of being Turkey's public broadcaster, will continue to be a strong supporter of Turkish sports in the future.

On this occasion, we wish the Sultans of the Net great success in their matches against Thailand, the Dominican Republic, China, and Brazil, which will be played in Hong Kong between June 11-16 and will be broadcast live on TRT screens. We respectfully announce this to the public."
