Turkey finishes 12th at the World Chess Olympiad

The 45th World Chess Olympiad, held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, has concluded. The Men's National Team placed among the top 12 countries in the world at the Chess Olympiad. The National Team, which finished with the same points as the 7th-place team, took 12th place due to tie-break criteria. Gülkız Tulay, President of the Turkish Chess Federation (TSF), stated that the national team fought very well against very strong opponents at the 45th World Chess Olympiad, saying, “We competed against very strong countries at the Olympics. We played at the top level of the world. Better days are coming. Our Turkish national teams achieved good results among 194 countries in the men's category and 180 countries in the women's category. Our young players coming up from the infrastructure will be the future of Turkish chess.”

At the Chess Olympiad, Grandmaster (GM) Ediz Gürel earned a bronze medal by placing third on the 2nd board. In the open category, where 194 countries competed, the Men's National Team, consisting of GM Ediz Gürel, GM Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş, GM Mustafa Yılmaz, GM Vahap Şanal, and GM Emre Can, recorded 6 wins, 4 draws, and 1 loss.

6 WINS, 2 DRAWS, 3 LOSSES

In the Women's Category, where 180 countries competed, the Women's National Team placed 26th. The Women's National Team, consisting of International Master (IM) Ekaterina Atalık, Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Betül Cemre Yıldız Kadıoğlu, WGM Kübra Öztürk Örenli, Woman International Master (WIM) Gülenay Aydın, and WIM Hayale İsgenderova, recorded 6 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses.

India became the champion in both the open and women's categories at the championship. While the USA placed second and Uzbekistan third in the open category, Kazakhstan placed second and the USA third in the women's category. In the 45th World Chess Olympiad, one of the most important organizations in world chess held by FIDE every two years, 977 athletes from 194 countries made moves in the Open Category, and 907 athletes from 180 countries competed in the Women's Category. The Olympiad was held in 2 categories: open and women's. Teams competed with 4 main players and 1 reserve player in both categories.
