As the excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup rapidly approaches, the Australian National Football Team, which will face Turkey in Group D, has announced its tournament squad. Ahead of the match to be played at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, on Sunday, June 14, at 07:00 TRT, the players selected by head coach Tony Popovic have been revealed.
Three goalkeepers will serve in Australia's squad: Patrick Beach (Melbourne City), Paul Izzo (Randers), and Mathew Ryan (Levante UD).
The defense line will feature Aziz Behich (Melbourne City), Jordan Bos (Feyenoord), Cameron Burgess (Swansea City), Alessandro Circati (Parma), Milos Degenek (APOEL), Jason Geria (Albirex Niigata), Lucas Herrington (Colorado Rapids), Jacob Italiano (Grazer), Harry Souttar (Leicester City), and Kai Trewin (New York City).
The midfielders have been determined as Cameron Devlin (Heart of Midlothian), Ajdin Hrustic (Heracles Almelo), Jackson Irvine (St. Pauli), Connor Metcalfe (St. Pauli), Paul Okon-Engstler (Sydney), and Aiden O'Neill (New York City).
The attacking line includes Nestory Irankunda (Watford), Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City), Awer Mabil (CD Castellon), Mohamed Toure (Norwich City), Nishan Velupillay (Melbourne Victory), Cristian Volpato (US Sassuolo), and Tete Yengi (Machida Zelvia).
Football Australia noted that the combination of young and experienced players will provide a significant advantage ahead of the tournament. Each player earned their place on the preliminary list thanks to their performance throughout the season at their respective clubs.
