National Team bids farewell to tournament in quarter-finals

In the UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-finals, the Turkish National Football Team faced the Netherlands at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

Although the national team finished the first half with a 1-0 lead, they left the pitch with a 2-1 defeat after conceding goals in the second half.

With this result, the Crescent-Stars bid farewell to the tournament in the quarter-finals.

The red-and-whites, who faced Portugal, Georgia, and Czechia in Group F of the championship, had advanced to the next round by finishing second with 6 points.

The national team had also eliminated Austria with a 2-1 score in the Round of 16.

In the 1st minute of the match played at the Berlin Olympic Stadium, the Netherlands created a dangerous opportunity. Memphis Depay, who broke free from his markers and entered the penalty area, took a shot from a central position, but the ball went over the bar.

In the 11th minute, Salih Özcan met the ball following a pass from Ferdi Kadıoğlu, who had quickly moved into the opponent's half. Salih's shot from outside the penalty area went over the bar.

The first half of the match ended with Turkey leading 1-0.

In the 55th minute, Turkey came very close to scoring. Arda Güler's long-range free kick hit the post and went out.

The Netherlands equalized in the 70th minute. Stefan de Vrij scored with a header from a corner kick taken by Memphis Depay, making the score 1-1.

Six minutes after this goal, Cody Gakpo scored to put the Netherlands ahead 2-1.

Although Turkey pushed for an equalizer and created chances in the final part of the match, they could not find a goal, and the Netherlands emerged as the 2-1 winners.

The Netherlands, who advanced to the semi-finals, will face England.

National footballer Samet Akaydin experienced his first goal celebration for the Turkish National Football Team with the goal he scored in the Netherlands match. Samet was also unable to continue the game due to an injury and was replaced by Cenk Tosun.
