Recep Günay, the club president of Bursaspor, a team in the TFF 2nd League White Group, commented on the brawl that took place in the final minutes of their 2-0 home defeat against Diyarbekirspor, saying, "If we were defeated, the players should look for the fault not in others, but a little bit in themselves."
Speaking to reporters as he left the stadium following the match played at the Yüzüncü Yıl Atatürk Stadium, Günay stated that the match had generally been played in a sportsmanlike manner.
Expressing that the events were regrettable, Günay said, "Our players should not fall for these games. You are professional footballers. When you step onto the pitch, you should not get caught up in provocations. You should not play with the spectators or the referee. You should not fall for their provocations. If you do fall for them and react in such a way to the slightest movement, then you are not professional footballers. Are they pleased that this community has come to the national agenda in Turkey in this way?"
Günay expressed that if there were a VAR system in the TFF 2nd League, grievances could be prevented. Explaining that it would be wrong to reflect the actions of a few players onto the entire community, Günay noted the following:
"I did not see anything so wrong on the pitch. If we were defeated, the players should look for the fault not in others, but a little bit in themselves. You will not fight, you will not be able to stand tall, and then you will say, 'Someone provoked us.' This is not a defense. You saw Bursaspor. Should it be like this right now? If they are happy with this situation, let them walk around Bursa as they please. They played with the fate of all of Bursa. I am not saying this for the whole team, but 3-4 players played with the fate of Bursaspor."
