Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke evaluated his team's performance following their 1-0 loss to Ferencvaros in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off round. Tekke stated that while the score was below their expectations, he saw positive signs in terms of their game plan and effort.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Tekke noted that they faced two main negatives in the match, which he identified as the final score and Nwaiwu's red card. Expressing satisfaction with the team's play, aside from a short period at the beginning of the first half, Tekke emphasized that Trabzonspor created many chances but failed to get the desired result in terms of finishing.
Tekke said, “It wasn't meant to be today. If we could have found the goals, we could have secured an advantageous score. My players did their best. The game gave us a signal that we will be better.”
BELIEF IN QUALIFYING REMAINS
Acknowledging that Ferencvaros holds the advantage in the scoreline, Tekke remained confident regarding the return leg. The burgundy-blue manager stated, “They have the advantage, but we will go to Hungary to qualify and to participate in the Europa League.”
Pointing out that there was an individual error in the goal conceded, Tekke said that the fact that the first attack resulted in a goal and the positioning problems during the transition to defense were decisive. Stating that many elements they worked on were reflected on the pitch outside of that moment, Tekke noted that the missing piece was the goal.
Touching on the referee's performance, Tekke expressed that he found the red card decision harsh. Stating that one or two mistakes in European competitions can have serious consequences, Tekke mentioned that he was satisfied with his team's general appearance but that the habit of winning must definitely be developed.
Providing information about transfer efforts, Tekke conveyed that they have to make a choice between adding a striker or a number 6 in their squad planning. Stating that conditions are the deciding factor, Tekke said, “If possible, we need a good number 6.”
Emphasizing that he finds the harmony and enthusiasm of the newly formed team positive, Tekke reiterated his belief before the return leg with the words, “We will be better, I am sure of that. We are below our expectations in terms of score, but we are ahead of our expectations in terms of play.”
