Vice President had traveled to Nigeria to scout players: Contracted malaria and passed away
Kocaelispor Vice President Ekrem Can has passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment after contracting malaria in Nigeria, where he had traveled to scout players.

Kocaelispor Club President Engin Koyun and Vice President Ekrem Can traveled to Nigeria, but Can fell ill upon his return and was admitted to a private hospital. Can's condition worsened, and he was diagnosed with malaria at a private hospital in Gebze. Despite all medical interventions, Can passed away. His funeral was held at the Karamürsel Central Mosque, and he was laid to rest at the Karamürsel New Cemetery.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Kocaelispor issued messages of condolence following the death of Ekrem Can.
"We have learned with deep sorrow that Kocaelispor Technical and Football Branch Vice President Ekrem Can has passed away. Ekrem Can's funeral will be held on Saturday, December 16 (today), at the Karamürsel Central Mosque following the afternoon prayer, and he will be laid to rest at the Karamürsel New Cemetery. We wish God's mercy upon the late Ekrem Can and extend our condolences to his grieving family and the Kocaelispor community."
Kocaelispor stated in a post on its social media account:
"Our Technical Vice President Ekrem Can, who had been under treatment for some time, passed away this morning. Our condolences to our community and his loved ones. We will not forget you, Ekrem Can."
