Vinicius Junior could not hold back his tears: I have been subjected to racism

Real Madrid's Brazilian footballer Vinicius Junior said he is fighting everywhere against the racist chants he has been subjected to recently.

Vinicius Junior held a press conference ahead of the Spain-Brazil friendly match to be played tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Vinicius stated, "Playing football is important, but fighting against racism is even more important. Black people should live a normal life. If that happens, I would go to matches at my club focusing only on playing football. All I want is to continue playing football and for everyone to have a normal life."

Expressing that he feels "great sadness" at every incident involving racism in football, Vinicius said, "Unfortunately, these things happen in every match here (in Spain), and every criminal complaint makes me feel worse. Like every black person in the world. It is a sad thing. But it happens. It is not just in Spain, it is like this all over the world. Similar things were happening to my father. They would choose a white person before a black one. I am aware of this. I am fighting so that others do not experience the same problem in the future."

"I ASKED FOR HELP FROM EVERYWHERE"

Emphasizing that racism exists not only in Spain but all over the world and that he is not waging a special fight against the fans in Spain, the Brazilian footballer stated, "I asked for help from UEFA, FIFA, Conmebol (South American Football Confederation), and the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation)."

Complaining that "racism is not a crime in Spain," Vinicius said, "I am sure that Spain is not a racist country, but there are too many racists, and most of them are in the stadiums. Some minds need to be changed because they do not know what racism is. I am 23 years old, and I have to teach many Spaniards what racism is. The incidents that bother me also upset my family very much. Fans insult me based on my skin color so that I play poorly on the pitch. Let them say other things to me, I would not say anything to them."

Calling for unity, Vinicius said, "We, as black people, know what we have to do. Only we black people know what we have experienced. We can all be one to change some things." He added:

"I know more about racism now. I have researched it. Muhammad Ali was an example, and I am speaking on behalf of Brazilians. Because the majority supports me. I no longer see the questions about this topic as an attack, and I give the answer that needs to be given."
