Mithat Halis, the agent of Wout Weghorst, who previously played for Beşiktaş, shared details of their meeting with Galatasaray in an interview with Radyospor.
Halis stated the following:
"We met with Galatasaray during the summer. There were discussions about whether or not to acquire the full rights to Icardi. Galatasaray wanted to sign Weghorst alongside Icardi. Weghorst is a system player. He performs a very important function on the pitch. His positional awareness is high and he is very competitive. For this reason, Galatasaray wanted him; both manager Okan Buruk wanted him, and we discussed the matter with Ayhan Akman, who also really wanted it to happen; however, Burnley demanded 10 million Euros. Galatasaray found this too high and preferred to wait until the end of the transfer window, but Weghorst could not wait until the final day of the transfer period; German teams pushed hard and he went to Hoffenheim on loan. İsmail Kartal had wanted Weghorst very much during his second stint at Fenerbahçe, but it didn't happen." .
It had also been alleged that Weghorst was being considered as a second striker to play alongside Icardi.
