Flick, who began his coaching career in 1996, served as an assistant coach for the German National Team between 2006 and 2014.
Flick, who became the head coach of Bayern Munich in November 2019, led the club through one of its most successful periods. Bayern Munich, which won the Champions League in the 2019-20 season, had inflicted one of the heaviest defeats in Barcelona's history by beating them 8-2 in the quarterfinals—the team Flick now manages.
Leaving Bayern in 2021, Flick took charge of the German National Team. However, Flick experienced disappointment after being eliminated in the group stage with Germany at the World Cup held in December 2022.
WHO IS HANSI FLICK?
He is a German football manager and former professional player. He most recently served as the head coach of the German national team.
Flick began his professional football career as a midfielder at SV Sandhausen, where he played for three seasons, making 69 league appearances and scoring 8 goals. He transferred to Bayern Munich in July 1985 and became a Bundesliga champion four times, in 1986, 1987, 1989, and 1990. He also won the German Cup in 1985, the German Super Cup in 1988, and played in the 1987 European Cup final. He transferred to 1. FC Köln in 1990, where he made 44 appearances over three seasons before retiring from professional football in 1993 due to injuries. He spent his final period as a player at Victoria Bammental from 1994 to 2000.
He began his coaching career in 1996 as a player-coach at Victoria Bammental. In 2000, he was appointed head coach of 1899 Hoffenheim, another fourth-tier team, where he achieved promotion to the Regionalliga Süd before leaving in 2005. Between 2006 and 2014, he served as assistant coach to Joachim Löw for the German national team, which won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and subsequently served as the sporting director of the German Football Association until 2017.
Rejoining Bayern Munich as an assistant coach in 2019, Flick became the team's interim head coach following the departure of Niko Kovac in November 2019. He was later appointed permanently and completed the club's second continental treble that season by winning the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
He also won the FIFA Club World Cup and the Bundesliga in 2021.
Along with Pep Guardiola, he became one of only two managers to achieve six titles in a single season with their teams.
In 2021, he replaced Löw as head coach of the German national team, leading the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He was dismissed from his position in 2023 following disappointing results.
