In the English Premier League, Chelsea, which has slipped to 9th place due to poor results in recent weeks and has opted for a managerial change, has appointed Xabi Alonso to this position for the upcoming season. The club also parted ways with Liam Rosenior, who took charge in January replacing Enzo Maresca, after just 3 months. The Blues will finish the 2025-2026 season with interim manager Calum McFarlane.

The London club announced that they have reached a 4-year agreement with Spanish manager Xabi Alonso, who most recently worked at Real Madrid. Alonso will officially begin his role on July 1st after signing his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Starting his managerial career in the Real Madrid youth setup, Xabi Alonso subsequently managed Real Sociedad B and Bayer Leverkusen. Sitting in the managerial chair at the German club for 3 seasons, Alonso won the Bundesliga title in the 2023-2024 season, as well as one DFB-Pokal and one DFL-Supercup.
