Speed tracking system to be mandatory for intercity passenger buses in 2024

A speed tracking system will be mandatory for intercity passenger buses starting in 2024.

According to the written statement, the speed tracking system will become mandatory for intercity buses next year. With the use of this system, citizens will have the opportunity to travel more safely.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu announced that a new era has begun in the field of intercity bus transportation, which is preferred across Turkey. He stated that a speed tracking system will be implemented on all buses to address the problems in intercity passenger transport activities that have come to the fore due to recent accidents.

"WILL BE TRACKED INSTANTLY"

Minister Uraloğlu stated the following in his written statement: “Unfortunately, accidents involving intercity buses lead to loss of life. In order to prevent this situation and ensure that our citizens travel more safely, we are switching to a speed tracking system application on all buses. With this application, which will come into effect as of 2024, buses will be able to be tracked instantly.”

Touching on the details of the application, Uraloğlu stated that within the framework of the Road Transport Regulation, this system will begin on January 1, 2024, and that the location, date, and time information of the buses will be transmitted to the Ministry electronically at 2-minute intervals.

The Minister also stated that driver and passenger information is transmitted to the Ministry via the Transport Electronic Tracking and Inspection System (U-ETDS). He explained that in this way, vehicle tracking information can also be transmitted through the same system, allowing buses to be tracked effectively.

Uraloğlu stated that thanks to this system, more effective supervision will be provided in areas such as the effective implementation of existing regulations, the prevention of illegal transportation, and the detection of vehicles that go outside permitted routes. He also noted that this information will be used effectively for situations such as natural disasters and accidents, and will contribute to drivers traveling more safely. He added that this information will be used in many areas to ensure order in the passenger transport sector.

Uraloğlu stated that they came together with sector representatives and non-governmental organizations at the 'Workshop on Problems and Solution Proposals for Passenger Transport Activities in Our Country' held on December 7, and that a series of exchanges of views were held on the problems experienced in the sector and solution proposals at the workshop. He said that in line with the demands that emerged at the workshop, a decision was made to establish a 'Passenger Transport Coordination Board'.

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that with the start of the application, a safer and more orderly system will be created in intercity passenger transport, and stated that sanctions will be applied to companies that do not comply with the rules within this scope.
