The search for efficiency during the typewriter era was the determining factor in the development of the F keyboard. As a result of the work led by İhsan Sıtkı Yener, a keyboard layout more suitable for Turkish writing habits was created.
When determining the positions of the letters in the F layout, the frequency of use in Turkish and the balanced operation of both hands were taken into account. For this reason, some letters are found in unexpected places for users accustomed to the Q keyboard.
While the Q keyboard became widespread globally, the F keyboard emerged as a language-focused standard in Turkey. Therefore, the difference of the F keyboard is not a random choice; it is the result of a design philosophy aimed at speeding up typing in Turkish.
