59 irregular migrants rescued in İzmir

A total of 59 irregular migrants found in 2 rubber boats off the coast of İzmir were rescued following an intervention by coast guard teams.

İzmir’s Karaburun and Dikili districts, 59 irregular migrants in 2 rubber boats were rescued by coast guard teams.

The Coast Guard Command received information yesterday at approximately 04:45 that there were irregular migrants in a rubber boat off the coast of Karaburun district. The teams, which reached the area rapidly, rescued a total of 23 irregular migrants, including 10 children, from the rubber boat that had been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek elements.

Off the coast of Dikili district, coast guard teams took action after another rubber boat, which was drifting due to an engine failure, issued a distress call. A total of 36 irregular migrants, 12 of whom were children, were also rescued from this boat. The migrants, who were brought to shore, were sent to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management after their processing.

Additionally, it was reported that a boat carrying illegal migrants sank 1 nautical mile off Karaabdullah Burnu in Çeşme district this morning, and search and rescue operations are ongoing for 1 migrant who went missing at sea.
