6-day demonstration ban in Van

Meetings and protest marches have been banned in Van for 6 days. 

In a statement made by the Van Governor's Office, it was announced that meetings and protest marches in the city are prohibited between May 10 and May 15. 

The written statement from the Governor's Office stated: "In order to prevent actions and attacks that are assessed to directly and clearly create the conditions for limitation and prohibition stipulated in our Constitution and laws, to ensure the life and property safety of our citizens, to thwart the plans of terrorist organizations, and in this context, to ensure national security, protect public order and general health, prevent the commission of crimes, ensure the continuation of fundamental rights and freedoms as well as the rights and freedoms of others and general public order, and prevent the spread of violence; within the geographical boundaries of Van province, for a period of (6) days starting from 10.05.2024 up to and including 15.05.2024, activities such as protest marches, open-air meetings and indoor meetings, press statements, sit-in protests and surveys, setting up/opening tents and stands, organizing signature campaigns, distributing leaflets, brochures and flyers, and all kinds of protest actions to be organized according to the provisions of the Law on Meetings and Protest Marches No. 2911 have been prohibited in accordance with the relevant articles of the Law on Meetings and Protest Marches No. 2911 and the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442."

The statement continued with the following expressions:

Between the specified dates, in order to prevent participation in any kind of unlawful action or event from our districts or surrounding provinces, either individually or collectively, or by using our province's routes, a decision has been taken not to allow individuals/groups likely to participate in unlawful actions/events to enter our province and districts, to leave them individually or collectively, or to use our province's routes to pass to the specified locations, in accordance with the provisions of Article 11, paragraph (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442.
