80 people hospitalized in 4 villages in Bolu due to drinking water

The incident occurred in the villages of Örencik, Okçular, Ilıcakınık, and Çamyayla, which are connected to the center of Bolu.

In the villages that use the same drinking water line, a large number of people fell ill following cleaning work performed on the water tank. 80 people who applied to the hospital over a one-week period with complaints of diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain were taken under treatment.

While it was learned that all citizens who applied to the hospital have been discharged, samples were taken from the water tank by Provincial Health Directorate teams and sent for laboratory analysis.

NO ONE FROM OKÇULAR VILLAGE WAS AFFECTED

While 80 citizens who applied to health institutions were discharged after their treatment, it was learned that one citizen was kept in the hospital for observation. Additionally, it was learned from Okçular Village Headman Emin Akgül that the citizens residing in the village were not affected by the water and that their tanks were clean.

"INITIAL LABORATORY RESULTS HAVE COME BACK NORMAL"

In the Governor's Office statement, it was reported that samples were taken from the mains water sources, residual chlorine measurements were performed, and laboratory analyses are ongoing. The statement made by the Governor's Office said, "On Sunday, May 11, 2025, around 21:00, following applications to health institutions with complaints of nausea and vomiting from the Çamyayla village connected to our central district, an investigation was immediately initiated by our Provincial Health Directorate under the coordination of our Governor's Office. As a result of the initial assessments, citizens who applied with similar complaints from Çamyayla village, Örencik village, Okçular village, and Ilıcakınık neighborhood, which were determined to be fed by the same water source, were also included in the investigation. Samples have been taken from the mains water sources, residual chlorine measurements are being performed, and laboratory analyses are continuing. Our citizens who applied to health institutions have been discharged following their examinations and treatments, and one of our citizens has been hospitalized for observation and is planned to be discharged. Initial laboratory results have come back normal. The results of new samples are being monitored. All public health measures regarding the matter have been taken, and the necessary field work and investigations are being carried out meticulously."
