Ali Yerlikaya announces: 'Motorcycles involved in 52 percent of accidents'

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated in a post on social media that 52.3 percent of urban traffic accidents involve motorcycles.
Minister Yerlikaya announced that between January 1 and April 10, traffic teams carried out a total of 650 thousand 760 operations regarding motorcycles and their riders. He stated that 1 thousand 584 people lost their lives in motorcycle accidents in 2024.
Yerlikaya called on motorcycle riders to obey traffic rules, saying, 'Please obey traffic rules and be more careful when riding motorcycles. Let us not neglect to use helmets and protective equipment.' He also reminded vehicle drivers that they need to be more careful toward motorcycle riders. He pointed out that motorcycles can be difficult to notice, especially at intersections and turns.
The Minister stated that between April 3 and April 10, police and gendarmerie traffic teams inspected 3 million 652 thousand 339 vehicles and took action against 497 thousand 591 drivers for various violations. These violations include speeding, lack of periodic inspection, and failure to wear seat belts. Emphasizing traffic safety, Yerlikaya said, 'Journeys exist to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate you.'
