Ankara overwhelmed by downpour: Cars swept away, vehicle falls into collapsed road, businesses flooded

A downpour that hit Ankara in the morning hours negatively affected life in the city. In Mamak, a light commercial vehicle fell into a sinkhole after a road collapsed, while many businesses were flooded and streets turned into lakes.

The downpour that took hold of Ankara in the morning hours caused flooding, road collapses, and transportation disruptions across the city. In a road collapse that occurred specifically in Mamak, a light commercial vehicle fell into the resulting pit.

In Mamak, one of the districts where the downpour was felt most intensely, the perimeter wall of Selçuklu Primary School in Mutlu Neighborhood collapsed. On İmam Alim Sultan Street in the same neighborhood, a light commercial vehicle fell into a pit caused by a road collapse. It was reported that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.

STREETS AND AVENUES REMAIN UNDERWATER

Due to the heavy rainfall, streets and avenues in many parts of the city were covered with water. While water puddles formed under bridges, long queues of vehicles occurred in traffic. As drivers struggled to move forward, the water level rose on some roads due to overflowing manholes. Rainwater also swept away some trash containers.

FLOODING IN INDUSTRIAL SITE

Many businesses were flooded in the Yenikent Industrial Site. While the flooding caused material damage to the workplaces, some parts of the industrial site remained completely underwater.
