Attention working parents: New regulation on maternity and paternity leave

Following the declaration of 2025 as the "Year of the Family," the government has begun work on changing leave rights for working mothers and fathers.
According to a report by NTV, the new regulation aims to increase the duration of maternity and paternity leave.
MATERNITY LEAVE MAY INCREASE TO 20 WEEKS
Under current practice, female employees are entitled to a total of 16 weeks of paid leave, consisting of 8 weeks before birth and 8 weeks after. The regulation currently under consideration proposes an increase of 4 weeks.
PATERNITY LEAVE TO BE EXTENDED TO 10 DAYS
The current 5-day post-birth leave period for fathers in both the private and public sectors is planned to be increased to 10 days under the new regulation.
While mothers and fathers have expressed that the current leave duration is insufficient, it has been reported that preparations for the new regulation are ongoing.
