Axe attack on a hair salon in Istanbul

In Istanbul's Kağıthane district, a hair salon was attacked with an axe due to a debt dispute. The suspect, who caused damage to the workplace, was driven away by the intervention of bystanders; the incident was captured on security cameras.

Details of the axe attack that took place in Istanbul's Kağıthane district have become clear. The argument, which began at a hair salon located in Talatpaşa Neighborhood on December 8 around 16:45, turned into violence shortly after.

According to the information obtained, a verbal argument broke out between Murat U. and Murathan A., who came to the workplace, due to a debt dispute. As the tension escalated, Murathan A. left the shop. About 5 minutes later, the suspect returned to the workplace and used the axe he brought with him to strike and damage the air conditioner and shelves in the shop.

Citizens in the vicinity intervened during the attack, took the axe from Murathan A.'s hand, and removed the suspect from the workplace. The attack resulted in property damage to the hair salon.

Following the incident, Murat U. went to the police station and filed a complaint. It was learned that in his statement, Murat U. said the suspect threatened him by claiming the debt had not been paid off. In his statement,

"He said he would cut me and kill me if I didn't pay. When I told him again, 'I paid you that debt,' he said, 'You'll see,' and left my workplace. He damaged my shop by saying, 'If you don't pay your debt, I know how to harm you like this,'" he reportedly stated.

It was learned that the investigation into the attack is being continued by police units.
