Black signs to replace pink at liquor stores: 'Tekel' term to be banned

Özgür Aybaş, President of the Liquor Dealers Platform, has raised claims of new regulations for liquor stores and kiosks, suggesting that a black-and-white standard for signs will be mandatory and the term 'tekel' (liquor store) will be prohibited.

Özgür Aybaş, President of the Liquor Dealers Platform,, claimed in a post on the social media platform X that a new regulation concerning liquor stores and kiosks is being implemented.

According to Aybaş's statement, the regulation will subject the use of signs by businesses to specific rules.

According to the information shared, a color standard will be introduced for signs. Accordingly, it will become mandatory for all signs to be designed with white text on a black background.

Furthermore, it was stated that the use of the term 'tekel' will be completely banned, and businesses will only be allowed to use the terms 'kiosk', 'market', or 'nut shop' on their signs.

In a subsequent post, Aybaş remarked, "Though pink would have been very nice, oh well. Black & White is also nice, it will be like 'Çarşı is against everything'; maybe the Beşiktaş football team will sponsor liquor stores and kiosks now." he stated.


'PINK SIGN' HAD BEEN ON THE AGENDA PREVIOUSLY

Özgür Aybaş, President of the Turkey Liquor Dealers Platform, had announced in another statement in March that a different sign change was planned for liquor stores.

In this context, it was stated that the currently used yellow and green signs would be removed and replaced with new signs dominated by shades of pink. It was noted that this change would not be limited to signs, and that the same color and design concept was intended to be applied to the refrigerators and interior arrangements of the businesses.
