In the Fatih district of Istanbul, a police officer committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at his home. During the investigation at the scene, a decapitated and dismembered male corpse of an unidentified person, as well as severed fingers, were discovered.

The incident occurred yesterday evening in an apartment located on Kariye İmarathanesi Street in the Ayvansaray neighborhood. According to allegations, colleagues of Police Officer Semih Gülmüş, who became concerned after he failed to report for duty and could not be reached, went to his home in the evening.

After the door could not be opened and a strong smell of natural gas was detected coming from inside, teams entered with the help of a locksmith and found Gülmüş motionless in the living room. Upon notification, health and crime scene investigation teams were dispatched to the address. Medical teams determined that the police officer had ended his life by firing a single shot to his head.

A detailed search of the house revealed that Gülmüş was lying on the sofa with a handgun in his lap, and there were dried bloodstains in the room. The truly horrific discovery was made in the bedroom. A decapitated and dismembered male corpse was found in bags hidden under the bed. In the kitchen, severed fingers were discovered under the counter.

While the body of Semih Gülmüş was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy procedures, a large-scale investigation has been launched to identify the body found in the house and to clarify all aspects of the incident.
