Fraudsters are making off with thousands of liras by taking out loans in the names of people whose information they have stolen, particularly through banking applications.

According to a report by İsmail Arı from Birgün, the bank accounts of numerous citizens who are Akbank customers have been emptied. Furthermore, loans were even taken out through their accounts.

'I AM FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST AKBANK OFFICIALS'

A citizen who filed a criminal complaint with the Lüleburgaz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said, "On May 19, while I was about to make a purchase at a market, I learned that my balance was insufficient. Later, when I went to an ATM and checked my account, I learned that on the same day, a loan of 350 thousand TL had been used from my account without my knowledge or consent, and that this had been transferred to another account. Along with the loan taken out, a total of 526 thousand 741 TL, including the money in my accounts, was sent to other accounts. During these transactions, Akbank did not send me any messages or call to warn me. I did not approve these transactions. There is a security vulnerability here. I am filing a complaint and pressing charges against the people who withdrew money from my account and the Akbank officials who created this security loophole."

Akbank customers who have been defrauded, whose bank accounts have been emptied, and in whose names loans have been taken out are coming together by forming WhatsApp groups. It is stated that the number of citizens defrauded in the WhatsApp groups has reached 160. Akbank, on the other hand, responds to the victims by saying, "We are taking all kinds of measures to protect you."
