Confusion in Manisa: Official license plates with 'APP' letters returned under suspicion of being fake
Confusion has erupted in Manisa due to the replacement of non-standard 'APP' license plates. Because some official license plates starting with the 'APP' letter group were mistaken for fakes and returned, the region has seen one of the busiest periods for applications in recent years.

Following the increase in penalties introduced by the amendment to the Traffic Law, applications for the replacement of non-standard license plates, known as 'APP' plates, have accelerated. In Manisa, some vehicle owners are applying to the relevant chambers to renew their plates due to inspections targeting fake license plate usage.
However, a notable confusion has emerged during the process. Some official license plates starting with the 'APP' letter group were mistaken for fakes by citizens and returned.
APPLICATIONS HAVE INTENSIFIED
Due to the deadline of April 1st for replacing non-standard APP plates and the upcoming holiday break, applications for license plate renewals have surged.
It has been reported that the number of applications in Manisa has reached its highest level in recent years.
Cahit Güden, President of the Manisa Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen, stated that citizens who have doubts regarding their vehicle license plates can apply to the chamber for information.
RECORD INTENSITY IN LICENSE PLATE PRODUCTION
Stating that there has been a remarkable increase in the number of license plates printed in recent days, Güden shared the following information:
"Until now, we were printing an average of about 40 license plates per day. Last Friday, 420 plates were printed, and on Monday, 596 were printed. We are experiencing the highest volume of license plate production in the last 8 years. Following the directive from the Ministry of Interior, no penalties will be applied until April 1, 2026; warnings will be issued first."
LETTER GROUP CONFUSION
Stating that some license plates issued in Manisa starting with the 'APP' letter group have led to misunderstandings among citizens, Güden emphasized that this situation should not be confused with non-standard 'APP' plates.
Güden said, "The license plates with the 'APP' letter group issued by our chamber are not non-standard. These are genuine, barcoded plates printed with our chamber's seal. There is only a similarity in the letter group."
